Russia needs to develop an effective system of convincing the population of the benefits of vaccination so that it becomes an element of culture. This will help prevent infections and reduce the number of serious diseases, said Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Gennady Onishchenko, TASS reports.
"We need fundamentally new work on persuasion, this is a large element of culture, which is why there are these vaccination gaps. We have effective means of prevention, and we are simply obliged to make them our allies," he emphasized.
At the same time, the epidemiologist noted that strict measures will not work, people cannot be forced to get vaccinated. According to him, it is necessary to work in those segments of the population where vaccinations and vaccines are ignored for traditional reasons.
According to Rospotrebnadzor, due to the refusal of part of the population to undergo the required vaccination, last year the incidence of measles increased 11 times, rubella – 6 times, whooping cough – 4.5 times. There were several cases of children dying from these diseases.
Earlier, MK wrote that during the period of mass vacations, dangers await Russians literally at every step : in Turkey, you can catch the Coxsackie virus, in the Moscow region - encephalitis if an infected tick attaches to you, and cercariosis if you swim in a pond, and now chikungunya fever, which can be brought from South Asia, has been added to the list of vacationers' phobias.
